Electoral system:
Scenario-1: If I vote for a particular party (Party-A) and do not want to vote for another party (Party-B). Post voting if the Party-A joins hand with Party-B, what’s the value of my vote?
Scenario-2: I decide to vote to only the person whom I feel the right fit. I look into the list of contestants, I search for the details and I find that all the contestants are have one or other criminal records. Who should I vote?
Scenario-3: I wanted a particular person from a party not to be elected, due to certain reasons, and so was people like me who have studied the record of this person from the said party. Now all of us who have decided vote against this person, but at the end this person have a very good vote bank in his own area probably from people who are uneducated and unaware of the happenings around. With the help of his vote bank he wins the election; what is my vote’s or the like’s value?
The solution to all these starts with education to all; every citizen of India should have completed his matriculation, with majority completing the graduation from some field. People should be taught to think on various aspects, to be taught the value and power of their vote. Every citizen should start thinking rationally, prior to voting they should know whom they are voting and why. What is the background of the person whom they are voting? If one tries to find answers for these queries prior to voting, can we expect the right having the right value?
Secondly, can we learn from some other countries where the system is much more robust? Every time after the election, what is the point in forming a coalition? If there is lack of majority, this shows either the people don’t have faith in any one party or they are confused (both means the same). Why does this happen every time? Don’t we have a solution to this? Can we not elect a one person from the known handful of persons at the national level? Once he is elected let him chose his cabinet. Since he is elected by the people, he will be accountable to the people in a much logical way and hopefully doing better things for the betterment. This may not solve all problems, but definitely will solve many issues which don’t have an answer?
Can we hope for a better tomorrow and can we say proudly that ‘It’s me who elected this government’.
